THE BRIDGE The Bridge is a cello quartet comprised of Nick Denton, Torsten Raupach, Murray Dunne and Morgan Gauthier. The foursome is under the direction of Morna Howie, cellist with the Okanagan Symphony and Instructor at Vernon Community Music School. The group members are all classically trained instrumentalists who share a vision to narrow the gap between classical and rock music. Thus the name, The Bridge. Individually, the members have received many local and provincial awards at classical music competitions. Morgan Gauthier- Runner Up, cello soloist BC Provincials and Top Canadian Piece in ensemble competition. Nick Denton- 2009 BC Performing arts chamber ensemble runner up and winner of "Best in festival" in Penticton, Salmon Arm and Kelowna. Nick and Morgan have performed together for several years at local art events and benefit concerts. This year the two were involved in another project and created a Fundraiser CD of classical music. Torsten and Murray have played in numerous music festivals and received top marks. Torsten also plays stand-up and electric bass in various jazz and rock ensembles. Murray also plays clarinet and trombone in various jazz ensembles and musical theatre pit bands. The Bridge brings a very unique sound to the stage, allowing audiences to explore a new take on rock, with performances of classics by Metallica and The Beatles arranged for cello. Impressed with the performers from last year's event, The Bridge’s members feel it will be their privilege to be selected to participate in this year's contest. |
